Eden Beach Ocean Play Area

The coastal park sits within the adjacent conservation foreshore reserve and creates a managed access and recreation zone on route to the beach. The new play facility is a major attraction for all age groups. It has different activity zones with challenging structures catering to youth (age 12-16), junior (7-12) and a separate focus on toddler play. The layout incorporates the installation of hang out spaces and social refuge for youth, with specific climbing activity structures aimed at a more mature age group and all paving and access routes have been designed to incorporate skate boards and scooters.

The design theme relates to tumbling containers which are clad in bleached timber and colours that emphasize the coastal environment. Safe play installations are accommodated within this framework and spill out into surrounding parkland and dune space. The clean design of cubic forms rolling across the level changes create safe enclosures and shade structures in a dramatic sculptural form.
