The Village at Wellard Nature Play Playground

The park was originally sited in an area with large existing native trees perfect for a Nature Playground, plus a natural clearing for a grassed oval with AFL goals. This park also offers picnic facilities with barbeque overlooking the play and oval linking these spaces.

In close conjunction with our client PEET, EPCΛD designed bespoke nature play elements using stockpiled materials that were saved during clearing of the site. These elements formed the basis of the Nature Play Park with further added features such as monkey bars, stepping stones, glow in the dark tree stump and multi-coloured rubber surfacing.

The key play components are the Living Cubbyhouses designed to age with the surrounding landscape. The design basis is to have native creepers that will eventually enclose them, thus forming the “Living” portion of the play element. These Cubbyhouses, in three different sizes are aimed at toddlers, children, and adults, yet also provide universal access play opportunities.

The combination of the Nature Playground with the Living Cubbyhouses, oval area and picnic facilities has created a great meeting space for the local community.
